EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR, Avskogningsförordningen in Swedish) requires companies to prove that seven key commodities (cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy, and wood) and their derived products do not come from land deforested or degraded after December 31, 2020. Compliance is mandatory starting December 30, 2026 for large and medium enterprises, and June 30, 2027 for micro and small enterprises.

Ongoing WMS has support for EUDR. When creating a purchase order, you can specify information about an EUDR Due Diligence Statement (DDS) on each purchase order line. Any item received against the purchase order line will be deemed to be covered by the DDS. When the item is shipped out of the warehouse, the corresponding order will contain information about the DDS, ensuring full transparency from start to finish.

The following fields are available on the DDS:

  • Document code (TARIC)
  • Reference number
  • Declaration identifier
  • Verification number
  • Valid to
  • Valid from

Typically, only the Document code and Reference number (or Document code and Declaration identifier) will be used. The other fields are available for use in more advanced cases.

EUDR may require you to merely passively store information about the DDS, or it may require you to actively pass on the information to other parties. We recommend speaking with an EUDR expert to determine your exact responsibilities under EUDR.

Here is an example of how Ongoing WMS' EUDR function can be used to pass on DDS information to a third party. The third party can be, for instance, a transporter which needs information about DDS for every item that you ship.

  1. A purchase order is created in an external ERP system.
  2. The ERP system sends the purchase order to Ongoing WMS using the PUT /purchaseOrders endpoint in the REST API, or using the ProcessInOrder endpoint in the SOAP API.
    • The EUDR information should be sent in the euDeforestationRegulationInfo (REST) or InOrderLineEUDeforestationRegulationInfo (SOAP) sections, respectively.
  3. If a purchase order line needs a DDS, the ERP system specifies the required DDS information in the API call.
  4. When the items arrive at the warehouse, the warehouse workers receive them as usual.
  5. When an item is picked on an order, Ongoing WMS knows which DDS each item belongs to.
  6. The third party uses the REST API GET /orders or GetOrdersByQuery to fetch information about every order that you ship.
  7. The API responses will contain information about the DDS for each item that has been picked.
    • The EUDR information will be placed in each picked article item, in the euDeforestationRegulationInfo (REST) or InOrderLineEUDeforestationRegulationInfo (SOAP) sections, respectively.

EUDR information is also available in the GetInboundShipmentsByQuery response.
